Why training for medical interpreters?

Untrained interpreters in general are at high risk for adding, deleting, and changing what has been said, adding their own opinions, taking over the interaction and have difficulty with the basic medical terminology. It is crucial that anyone who interprets, whether a bilingual staff member, a contractor, or an agency interpreter, receive basic interpreting training before providing these services.
